              Researcher-lecturer of the Jean Monnet Center of Uzhhorod National University Petro Tokar took part in the international webinar «New contexts in the Preservation of Historical Memory.»

            The L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Association of Departments of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, together with Buketov Karaganda University, held the Republican educational scientific-methodical webinar with international participation on March 26-27, 2021, on the eve of the World Historian`s Day. The webinar was dedicated to the topic «The Departments of the People of Kazakhstan Assembly Cooperation with museums and archives for the preservation of historical memory». 

         More than 130 participants, namely representatives of government agencies, deputies, museums, archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan, domestic and foreign experts, members of the Association of Departments of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, teaching staff of Kazakh universities were present at the webinar. Representatives of government agencies, civil society institutions, scientific
structures, domestic and foreign scientists, experts, researchers from 6 countries (Turkey, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, China) were webinar speakers.

          The purpose of this webinar was to get acquainted with and discuss the methods of further development of cooperation between the Association of Departments of the People of Kazakhstan Assembly, scientific and educational structures, civil society institutions, international experience in preserving the common historical memory.

          Petro Tokar`s report was devoted to the preservation of historical memory and experience of Ukrainian researchers of these tragedies in the history of Ukraine, large-scale work on the rehabilitation of victims of political repressions, elaboration of the problems of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 by Ukrainian historical science and its genocidal orientation against the Ukrainian people, participation in the research process of civil society institutions, the formation of historical memory, teaching in high school on the Holodomor and repression. For this purpose, Ukraine has established close cooperation with state and departmental archives and museums, which are fully open to researchers. `Books of Memory` and many scientific works were published. The monuments memorizing the victims of innocent murders in Ukraine and many countries were established. Memorial Days have become a common practice. Numerous forums are held, experience is shared everywhere, and the truth is shared with all interested, including many European countries, especially in Kazakhstan. As far as Kazakhs, like Ukrainians, suffered the most grief and heavy losses from inhuman repression and the Holodomor during the Stalinist regime.

            The participants of the webinar came to the conclusion that at this stage in Kazakhstan, large-scale work is being carried out on the rehabilitation of victims of political repression, the restoration of truth, and historical justice are being performed. During the 30-year history of modern Kazakhstan, `Books of Sorrow` have been published. The work continues through working groups of the State Commission for the Full Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repression. A collection of webinar materials will be published as an overview of practices and a
summary of proposals for preserving and strengthening the common historical memory.
