The sThe webinar ‘International Academic Mobility of Students as a Factor in Expanding Bilateral Cooperation with Neighboring EU Member States’ was held on April 5, 2023, in the framework of the scientific project ‘Jean Monnet Transcarpathian Center for Studying European Development Strategies at Uzhhorod National University’. Students learned about the various international opportunities open to UzhNU students, in particular where to find relevant information on internships and studies abroad, who can participate in academic mobility, how to win a study grant, how to write a motivation letter correctly, the role of English language proficiency for studying at a foreign university and much more.

Vice-Rector for Academic Policy and Research, Doctor of Political Science, Professor Myroslava Lendel opened the event: ‘Student life consists of many components. Firstly, you get an education, secondly, you get your first scientific experience, thirdly, you apply practical skills - many of you find a job during your studies. You can immerse yourself in student life for a few months living at a foreign university, where you will get all of the above thanks to the opportunities provided by UzhNU’.

Head of the Department of International Relations, Associate Professor of the Department of International Studies and Social Communications, Oksana Sviezhentseva, outlined in detail all available opportunities for academic mobility of UzhNU students: ‘First of all, I would like to thank the students who registered for our event. It is gratifying that you want to move forward and are interested in improving yourself, traveling, and learning something new. This will positively impact your professional development in the future and give you positivity, growth, and the best memories of university life. Today we will talk with you about everything related to international mobility. We will analyze all types of mobility and answer all your questions. After all, we strive to inspire and tune in to the power of thought that will move you in the future, so that you can take advantage of all the opportunities that lie ahead. Many types of academic mobility are available for UzhNU students, in which bachelor’s, master’s, and postgraduate students can participate. Opportunities include semester (short-term) study (Erasmus+), studying in joint educational programs abroad, participation in foreign student conferences, seminars, training, practice (including language), participation in winter/summer schools, short-term internship, study, conducting scientific research work in foreign scientific research institutes and participation in international scientific projects, grants, competitions.

Academic mobility programs include university agreements on semester studies/double degrees, intergovernmental scholarship funds, Erasmus+, scholarships for studies at Bavarian universities, the Fulbright Program, Chevening scholarships, and British Council Programs. Students of various specialties of UzhNU have the opportunity to study free under the semester study program based on university contracts: at the Pomeranian Academy in Slupsk (Poland), at the University of Hradec Králove (Czech Republic), at the University of Darmstadt (Germany), at the University of Liège (Belgium). And also at universities with a double degree program: L'Aquila University (Italy), Oleksandr Dubcek University in Trencin (Slovak Republic), and Pomeranian Academy in Slupsk (Poland). Financing student mobility is also possible with the help of grants, scholarships, the host or sending party, and at the student’s own expense. Specialists of the Department of international relations constantly monitor and share on their page available grants and scholarships that can be useful to UzhNU students.’

International partners from Rzeszów (Poland) joined the webinar and encouraged students to participate in international cultural exchange. Atuka Kizikurashvili, a representative of the Association of International Projects INPRO, noted that free communication, exchange of experience and establishment of intercultural ties, joint discussions and debates on current topics will become a platform for free self-expression.

Students of UzhNU who are currently gaining experience in academic mobility in the universities of the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, and Slovak Republic also joined the webinar. For this, students sent short videos where they talked about their impressions. One of them is Maryna Slyvka, a master’s student at the Faculty of Foreign Philology, who is currently studying at the Pomeranian Academy in Slupsk (Poland): ‘This is the second time I have been lucky enough to take part in the semester study program at the Pomeranian Academy. I study at the Faculty of German Philology and all subjects here are conducted in German. Polish is also mandatory, which is relatively easy for Ukrainians to learn. A big advantage is that students can make their own study plan and choose the subjects they like (except for the compulsory ones). Positive impressions were also expressed by ten students currently studying at the University of Pitesti (Romania), at the University of Hradec Králove, and many others.

Generally, more than 150 students of various faculties and specialties who participated in the event received a lot of positive impressions and motivational directions during the communication, discussion, and presentation of international academic mobility at Uzhhorod National University.
