On November 14-18, 2022 the Jean Monnet Transcarpathian Center (JMTC) hosted the Second training cycle on Europeanization of the public administration system and Summer school ‘Resetting Ukraine’s Foreign Policy in the Context of Russia’s Aggression’ which were held as part of the scientific project ‘Jean Monnet Transcarpathian Center for Studying European Development Strategies at Uzhhorod National University’. The purpose of the training sessions and summer school were to increase the general level of knowledge and gain relevant practical experience in the implementation of European strategies for the development of applicants of all levels of higher education in relevant specialties, specialists of local governments concerned with European and Euro-Atlantic integration, foreign policy and national security of Ukraine.

The target audience of the events was representatives of regional authorities and deputies of local self-government, masters of ‘Public Administration’ (Faculty of Social Sciences) and ‘International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies’ (Faculty of History and International Relations) of Uzhhorod National University, PhD students, young scientists.

The head of training activities, Doctor of Science in Public Administration, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Honoris Causa – Olha Rudenko (Kyiv) worked in the Training Office of the JMTC. The training took place in the format of a video conference.

Director of the Educational and Research Institute of European Integration Studies of UzhNU Ivan Artyomov,  Doctor of Science in Public Administration, Professor of Political Science and Public Administration, Director of the Institute of Political Regionalism of Uzhhorod National University Marian Tokar, members of the project team: Acting Dean of the Faculty of History and International Relations, Assoc. Prof. Vitaliy Andreyko, Director of the Center JMTC Petro Tokar, Leading Specialists of the Educational and Research Institute of European Integration Studies Svitlana Zub, Renata Chizhmodiy took part in the opening of the Training Cycle and Summer school.

Leading experts and consultants of the scientific community of Ukraine on local self-government and regional policy, city management, specialists in the development of educational and training programs for the development of the public administration system, and media literacy were involved in the pieces of training.

Viktoriia Zahurska-Antoniuk, expert consultant, Doctor of humanistic sciences in the field of political science, Doctor of Sciences in Public Administration, Professor, Head of the Department of International Relations and Political Management of the Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University familiarized the listeners with the concept of the sphere of geopolitical transformations in the context of influence on national security, institutional ensuring public administration in conditions of geopolitical threats. She is also a member of the specialized academic council for the defense of Doctoral theses in public administration, part-time professor at the University of Słonski (Poland).

Halyna Kaplenko, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Economics and Public Administration of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Consultant on local self-government, local economic development, democratic governance, leadership, personnel management, self-development, soft skills development highlighted the value context of modernization of professional training of civil servants in the conditions of global challenges and social changes.

Volodymyr Mandragelya, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of methods of professional education and social and humanitarian disciplines, and Serhiy Shturkhetskyy journalist, scientist, public figure, candidate of sciences in public administration, the associate professor talked with employees of local self-government bodies, representatives of local councils of territorial communities of the region.

A large number of participants of the training and summer school showed a significant interest in this form of communication with experts and acquiring relevant knowledge in the chosen specialty. The listeners noted the high level of organization and the positive value of these events for improving their competence in matters of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, foreign policy, and national security of Ukraine. Everyone was given the appropriate name certificates.

It should be noted that such training will take place annually until 2023 within the framework of the international project ‘Jean Monnet Transcarpathian Center for Studying European Development Strategies at Uzhhorod National University’.
